Popular Japanese fashion retailer UNIQLO is bringing its clothing line to West Edmonton Mall starting next month.
The company announced it would be opening its first store in Alberta on Friday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. The first 200 people in line will receive a special edition tote bag while the first 500 will receive other branded giveaways on opening day.
The store will be offering its line of HEATTECH and LifeWear.
UNIQLO Canada spokesperson Salina Shairulla said the company offers high-quality clothing that is both well designed and comfortable.
“We have different areas of category,” he said. “So we’ll have leisurewear, we will have business wear, there’s comfortable clothing, we have undergarments as well as some accessories like backpacks.”
Shairulla added UNIQLO also offers more professional clothing like blazers and button-down shirts. She described the store’s prices as reasonable with a t-shirt costing around $20 while a hybrid jacket can cost between $99 to $250.
She said Edmonton was always part of the expansion strategy.
“Edmonton is a very unique place with its love of sports and festivals and diverse culture, which is important to UNIQLO as well,” Shairulla added. “We feel it’s a natural fit and progression for us because of the climate and lifestyle.”
UNIQLO currently has 11 stores in Canada with seven being in the Greater Toronto Area and four around Vancouver.
The Edmonton store will also feature a recycling initiative where customers can drop off gently used UNIQLO clothing for donation for those in need.
The Edmonton store will be located on Level Two near the Mayfield Toyota Ice Palace with normal hours between 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
